Why choose a fishing holiday with Verdant Parks?

There's so much more to fishing than simply catching a fish. It's a chance to escape to nature, leave the stresses of everyday life behind and fully switch off. Our parks are situated in some truly stunning spots in Scotland and North East England, offering the ideal backdrop for a relaxing fishing trip with the added bonus of cosy accommodation, fantastic on-site facilities and plenty to explore nearby.

We welcome everyone to give fishing a go, from newcomers to experts, so the whole family can get involved and make memories to last a lifetime. Whether you fancy fly fishing by our on-site lakes at Riverside or Thurston Manor, or unwinding by the River Wear at Heather View, our parks are the ideal place to head for your next fishing trip.

Planning a fishing holiday in the UK

Don't forget your poles, reels, hooks, lures, bobbers or bait. It's also a great idea to pack plenty of sunscreen and insect repellent, and a first-aid kit always comes in handy. Fishing can be enjoyed in any weather, but it's important to dress appropriately to make sure a sudden downpour or chill doesn't put a damper on things. Remember that it's often colder and windier near water, so bring along layers and don't forget a raincoat just in case. Hats and sunglasses can protect you from the sun, and don't forget to apply plenty of sunscreen to exposed skin.

Knot-tying is an important part of the fishing process, so it's a great idea to have a practice before heading out. The best place to start is tying a fishing line on a barbless hook with a clinch knot. Use a fairly large diameter string and paper clip and take care when handling hooks.

Always obey fishing laws and try to support conservation efforts where possible. Respect other anglers and make sure to practice safe angling and share your knowledge with others. Never release live bait into waters, and be sure to properly recycle and dispose of litter.
