The Rich History of Thurston Manor Leisure Park
28/09/2023
Thurston Manor is a stunning Leisure Park located in the picturesque countryside of Dunbar, Scotland. The park is situated on the site of the historic 16th century Thurston Castle. The history of Thurston Manor dates back to the early 16th century when the castle was built by the Earls of Dunbar. The castle was originally built as a defensive structure to protect the area from invading armies. Over the years, the castle underwent several changes and renovations, but it remained an important stronghold until it was abandoned in the 18th century.
During the 19th century, the castle was used as a farm and the surrounding lands were used for agricultural purposes. In 1974, the castle and the surrounding lands were purchased by a local businessman named John McNee. McNee had a vision of transforming the site into a holiday park that would offer visitors a chance to experience the beauty and history of the area.
In 1978, the first holiday homes were installed on the site and Thurston Manor Leisure Park was officially opened. Over the years, the park has grown and expanded, offering a range of accommodation options including caravans, lodges; plus the opportunity for holiday home ownership.
Despite its transformation into a leisure park, Thurston Manor still retains much of its historic charm. Visitors can still see the ruins of the castle, which are located on the site of the park.
Thurston Manor is surrounded by beautiful countryside and is situated close to several popular tourist attractions. Visitors can explore the nearby John Muir Country Park, which offers miles of scenic coastal paths and beautiful beaches. The park is also located close to the historic town of Dunbar, which is home to several museums and historic landmarks.
Today, Thurston Manor is a popular destination for visitors from all over the world who are looking to experience the natural beauty and rich history of Scotland. The park continues to grow and expand, offering visitors a range of accommodation options and amenities, while still retaining its historic charm and character.
